Baylight Update 2020
Dear Friends of Baylight,
On New Year’s Eve 2019, like you, we at Baylight Counseling had great hopes for the year which had then arrived at our doorstep. Like you, those hopes would soon be turned to doubts, fears, and concerns as the COVID-19 pandemic began to grip our society and the world.
We saw many uncertain times come our way, and learned afresh what it means to “lean not on our own understanding” (Prov. 3:5-6). Through it all, I’m happy to report that not only has Baylight survived the pandemic, but in many ways, we are stronger than ever.
Although our offices were shuttered for a full three months due to COVID-19, we will close this year nearly matching our 2019 figures, with an estimated 800 counseling session provided. Twice this year, July and December (anticipated), we eclipsed previous one month session records. And, we have seen increases in new clients with the advent of Zoom online video conferencing (which now makes up nearly half of all services provided).
We consider all of these circumstances to be considerable blessings from the Lord, and are grateful to him for his care and provision for Baylight throughout.
Called to Care
Unfortunately, with the economic impact of COVID-19 visiting many people, we have also seen a significant growth in our reduced fee and pro bono services. By year’s end, we expect that figure to eclipse $10,000.00. We don’t lament that; it’s why we exist—to reach as many as possible with Christ-centered counseling services. But, we can only maintain our mission because of the generosity of ministry partners—folks who believe in the work we’re doing.
In 2021, we’re praying that the Lord would provide for our ministry’s logistical needs: a part-time assistant to help us with scheduling, as well as someone to help us maintain our financial data. These needs come as the ministry has grown to a point where these items become necessary to remain effective and efficient. These are good problems for a small non-profit like Baylight to have! To whom much is given, much is required (Luke 12:48).
Your Gift Matters
As we close out 2020, we’d like to give thanks to all who’ve partnered with us over the years, and supported us in prayer. We’d also like to ask you to consider joining with us again (or for the first time!) in support of biblical counseling. Your tax deductible gift will be felt by many as it provides for our low session fees, as well as the reduced fee and pro bono services previously mentioned.
