(Re)Build Your Marital Trust Fund

Trust

One of the most common questions I receive in marital counseling has to do with the (re)building and maintaining of trust in marriage. Below are three biblical principles to pray about and keep in mind daily.

Remember, walking in each of these faithfully is the fruit of the Holy Spirit's work in our lives, not the root of our union with Christ, or even the basis of our marriage covenant.

These fruits will nourish and enrich your marriage's "trust fund" as you learn to desire and take joy in them.

Three Trust-Building Investments

1. Speak the truth in love (Eph. 4:15)

It's never enough to only "tell the truth." As Christians, we're called to speak the truth in love.

2. Confess your sins to one another. (James 5:16)

Confession of sin, whether deliberate or not, is a key to maintaining emotional intimacy in a grace-driven marriage.

3. Let your 'yes' be 'yes' and your 'no' be 'no.' (Matt. 5:37)

Don't be cryptic with your spouse, but say what you mean and mean what you say.

Shed Some Light

Share this post with your spouse, and ask them where they've seen you struggle.

Pray with them about their observations, and be intentional about growing in these areas.

Little investments in our marital trust-fund today will pay dividends tomorrow!
